Celebrate the 400th anniversary of the birth of Ireland's last Saint and the 50th anniversary of the cannonisation of Saint Oliver Plunkett in the place of his birth at the Plunkett Tower House and Church on Loughcrew Estate. This walk and talk by Historian Bartle D'Arcy will cover his life story from his origins at Loughcrew through his travels and travails of becoming The Archbishop of Armagh, Primate of All of Ireland, during dangerous and turbulent times. Both trials and the fake "Popish Plot" that ultimately led to his martyrdom at Tyburn on the 1st of July 1681 will be covered as well as his beatification in another turbulent time in Ireland in 1920 and his canonisation in 1975. The Walk and Talk will take in the Plunkett Church and the foundations of the earlier Plunkett Longhouse that gave Ireland its last Saint, The Patron Saint of Peace and Reconciliation.
